| Sup Fabulousxp, welcome to the school of social sciences :P
Business econ i would say IS a competitive major, in terms of jobs and such just because its like the biggest major here. The school of social sciences is the largest, i believe. The courses aren't tough (i think ppl talk **** about econ because its like a slacker major), but of course you still gotta study as well. For the intern, a member in my fraternity told me about the position, and i applied for it, destroyed the interview, and was offered a position lol. HOWEVER, UCI itself also offers a lot of jobs (there are plenty of places to work on campus), but there is a very useful resource called Zotlink. Basically, employers go to UCI and tells them that they're hiring, gives them the info, and it gets put into the Zotlink database to pair up students. Some jobs look for GPA, some dont. It depends on the employer.
Mesa is a little far from the classes but nowhere that cant be accessible within a 10 minute walk. Crystal Cove auditorium, a popular lecture hall, is literally right next to mesa. BOOYAH, middle earth losers!!!
However, mesa IS far from the ARC grr. everytime i went I would board (i invested in a longboard back then, but bikes/boards are banned now) to middle earth, meet up with my friends, then go to the ARC (from middle earth its like 5 minutes away). Then i would freeride downhill all the way back to mesa heheh. Shouldn't be a problem though, i went like 3 times a week.
Hope that answers all your questions. |

| Historically, biological sciences is the most common major among incoming freshmen students, but overall, social science is indeed the largest school for undergraduates. However, looking at the accelerated trend of social science majors, it could be the most common major among incoming freshmen students for 2008 - 2009. Take that however it implies. |

| another question: I'm a little confused about entering the CHP if i wasn't admitted as a freshmen. do i not have to completely fill all the honors breath requirements because i might have done so already? can i try and get in when i go to register at SPOP?
also, when it comes to doing research, do you have to do the entire research sequence of classes? (i.e. for a chem major, would i have to do chem 180 A-B-C? thats a whole year! could i just do B-C in my last two quarters as a senior?)
also, is there a real difference between the various econ majors? specifically the regular and quant. econ?
also, what do you think would be harder/more worthwhile? majoring in a science like chem/bio and graduating from CHP or a double major from chem/bio and one from the school of social sciences/humanities? i dont think i can do both (CHP and double major) and just want opinions from some people. Is econ impacted?
lastly, what is the bio core that many people take to get ready for med/pharm school? bio 97-98-99? what about the bio 93-94 sequence?
thanks for trying to field answers. i know my questions are pretty specific to science majors/my situtation, so please don't go jumping through hoops or anything funky to find answers for me.
EDIT: sorry to ask, but typically, what majors are competitive/graded on a curve? excluding the intro bio classes i guess...)

| every class excluding some humanities are pretty much graded on a curve.
For the core bio classes, 93 and 94 are only required if you got lower than 5 on ap test (maybe 4 but i dont remember). 94 is useless, 93 is more useful.
bio 97,98,99 required i believe.
research? I don't know what youre talking about with the 180..
I went straight into research at the end of spring quarter... Bio 199.
CHP and major in science ftw. Be wary of hum core though, its a GPA killer.
I don't know what youre asking when you ask about entering CHP. Youre exempt from hum core if you dont enter CHP as a freshman. |

| Hey all and thanks for answering all our questions about UCI. I got one more. How is it being at UCI without a car?
I know that I'd be fine in UCLA and Cal without a car, but am still more inclined towards Irvine, so please let me know what you think...thanks! |

| UCI without a car sucks, you gotta walk everywhere. But don't worry, i didnt have a car last year either. I just walked to UTC, or got rides with my dormmates to costco, beach, wherever. Its not much of a hinderance, rather an annoyance. Plus, if you DO have a car, ppl will want to leech you for rides.... and ... with gas at $4.04 here, its a pain really.
Also Birdkiller, dont say that =[. I took humcore freshmen year and destroyed hella breadth requirements. SUre it was hell, sure it was a ***** class, but now i can look back and say, "HAHA SUCKER you're still taking humanistic inquiry / writing or whatever class when im already done with my breadth". |

| yeah, thanks mucho for all the answers
last question (for now anyways), for CHP, what is the deal with being exempt from certain requirements if i don't do it as an entering freshmen? i dont plan on entering CHP as a freshmen (to avoid the hum core), but i still want to graduate with it. would H. o-chem (52 series), the honors social science and honors research be enough classes for me to graduate with CHP honors?
i won't take h. general chem cause i took g.chem at IVC (im a fairly local student) and got As both semesters (one of the consolers at the phys sci school said i could take honors ochem as a frosh then). what about the honors science core in general; do i still have to take that as a science major? i dont believe the bio 97-98-99 sequence is offered as honors (something ill have to take for premed and the biochem conc). |

| honors ochem is optional.
If you want to do CHP w/o hum core, i advise you take biomed engineering remed and stick with it or switch.
science majors dont take sci core.
honors ochem is optional.
so yea i think what yo usaid is pretty much true.
Best part of CHP is CHP housing imo. |

| oh HI i was thinking of majoring in business economics since i don't think i'll be able to get into business administration because it's hella impacted. business econ is NOT impacted right? do you have to maintain a certain gpa, and is it hard to get even a 3.0? also, what kinds of courses would you be taking? is it heavily based on math or just concept? |

| Mi Kage:
Biz econ is not impacted, pretty sure everybody gets in also. There is no minimum gpa requirement for biz econ (although it has to be above 2.0 or else you get kicked out of school). 3.0 is not hard to get at all. Biz econ is mainly econ courses, introductory math, and statistics. There is pretty tough math (math 4, linear algebra/matrices), but otherwise than that its over. and statistics, which annoys me. And a bunch of theoretical economics, of course! :thumb:

i'm not sure. think its the contract.... but this i cannot answer. haha, such a long time ago =/. Shoefactory?? |
