Regarding placement tests...

Hey all I was wondering if i do poorly on the placement tests will there be any negative consequences aside from being placed in a more elementary class (i am 100% cool with this)? Also if I choose to not take placement tests will I automatically be placed in the most basic class or will I get some penalty or run the risk of not getting the classes i need? For example I'm enrolled as an engineering major and i have to take the physics and chemistry placement tests but I remember absolutely nothing about these subjects and would actually prefer to go to a more basic class so I can get a better handle on these classes if I choose not to take the placement test what will happen? Would it be better to just take it? (I don't really want to take it because i live more than an hour away from irvine) Thanks in advance
