Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program?

So I just got the e-mail inviting me to join the UROP and get involved in faculty-mentored undergraduate research or creative projects

Personally, I'm a business econ transfer student and this is my first quarter here at UCI

I'm wondering if I should join the program, or just wait for next quarter or something...

Anyone knows more specifically about UROP and your responses will truly be appreciated!

1. are you interested in doing research? if not, end here.

2. you can do plenty of research without doing the UROP program. benefits include: a (small) scholarship. it might only be for research related things, not tuition or personal school things. and you cant really do things like buy laptops for "research".

3. you will probably have to give a presentation at some point (symposium)

4. you may have to go to little mini conferences/seminars at uci.

5. you can get credit (although you dont need UROP for that).

6. there is a small chance you can be paid (most common during summer).
