Before I appeal,

I've noticed that before one decides to send in their appeal, many suggest they must first contact the school. Is this necessary for UCLA, and also including other UC's to accept my appeal? I've already contacted UCSD, but that was due to their appeal link not functioning properly.

It's not necessary to contact the campus but it's often helpful. If you call often enough, you will likely find someone who can give you a definitive answer as to why you were not admitted. Knowing the reason gives you the opportunity to address that concern in your appeal.
