Switching into Math???

I'm a first year undeclared Life Sciences major (pre-med). Math has always come naturally to me and w/o much effort. After being in the 3 series for a few weeks now, I feel that I'm wasting my talents by not pursuing harder math.
I'm thinking to switch my major to Applied Mathematics while still "being pre-med." Is this a bad idea-- it would mean cramming the whole 30 series, physics 1 series, chem 14, and ls1-4 by the end of junior year (in order to be ready to apply to medical school).
I want to switch to math because I feel I may do well in it and it'll leave more options for me than a bio degree would in case i dont go to medical school)
Also, does anyone know any information on the Math department here? Avg GPA's? Class difficulty? (I havent met anyone who's a math major) Also, am I naive to believe just because I did well in H.S., I can major in math?
THanks.
