Official UCLA Class of 2016 Stats Thread

Hey, guys. I know there's already an official admit thread, but I thought there should be a stats thread because I know I definitely browsed them when I was looking to apply to schools! I think they're a good resource for prospective applicants

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: A spot will most likely open up for someone. I don't mean to brag or anything, but I only applied because I got a fee waiver when applying to UC Berkeley and could add another school at no charge. However, I will keep it under consideration. People on the waitlist: keep dreaming, and your aspirations may come true!

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Seems like they accepted a lot of people (but maybe that's just b/c all my friends are nerds), I'm so glad I got in! UCLA is great for my major But the financial aid package isn't as great as the one UCSD offered me (Chancellor's scholarship). I'd be paying over $11,000 from loans and working at UCLA per year, but that's okay! Seriously considering attending here...Sorry to those of you who didn't receive a letter! You're all amazing, nonetheless. College admissions have been especially unpredictable these past few years.

College and Program: College of Arts and Sciences; Biochemistry

Stats:

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.89
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 4/289
SAT I (breakdown): Math/Critical Reading Score: M- 670 CR- 740
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World History, AP Language and Composition, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB and AP Government

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: Relay for Life (Team Captain, 3 yrs); Green Team (Secretary and Treasurer, 3 yrs); National Honor Society (2yrs); Key Club (2 yrs); Varsity Football (2 yrs); Varsity Track and Field (2 yrs)
Essays: I think I wrote one about a big decision I made in choosing high schools, which I thought was quite significant at the time (two very powerful and prestigious private schools vs. one lonely "ghetto" public school). Another essay I wrote was about a racial incident I overcame when I first begun attending the aforementioned public school. By the way, choosing the public school is the best choice I could have ever made; not that it matters to anyone else besides me.

Location/Person:

State (if domestic applicant): Washington
Country (if international applicant): United States
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Japanese-American
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Around $120,000 annually
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Out-of-state student who can afford the tuition, but will not attend if given an acceptance to a private school (like USC)!

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I feel proud to be accepted to UCLA during a year with so many applicants. Although I'm hoping to get into one of my private schools (USC, Stanford, Penn, Cornell or Claremont McKenna), I still feel blessed to be appreciated by a school with such history and success. I hope many students on this forum get accepted to UCLA as well. Who knows, maybe we'll all end up going here in the end. Only time will tell

  • APs: Calculus AB- 5 Biology- 5 English Language- 4
  • GPA (UW, W): UW ~ 3.9 (Lower now), UC GPA ~ 4.12, W ~ 4.25
  • Rank: ~42/525
Subjective:
  • ECs listed on app: Japanese Club Treasurer, not sure what else, really. My ECs were pretty weak...really regret it.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I wasn't planning on going to LA anyway, so I guess in a way I don't really care. It kind of bites that I wasn't even waitlisted though. Ah well. Maybe it was my ECs, maybe it was my essay, maybe it was my GPA, maybe I should've tried harder on the SAT...who knows. But congratulations to everyone who got in!
