Please help with class schedule!

I'm majoring right now in biochem but plan to change to physiological science and am pre-med. Here is my schedule:

Writing I
Math 3A
Life Science 1
Cluster- either IRD or Sex from Bio to Society

Is this too much for the first quarter? And also, I'm not sure which should I take, something that would fulfill more GE requirements (IRD) or a course which I'm more interested in.

One more thing, if I take the Japanese placement test in the fall and pass into Japanese 4, should I take it or just opt out and wait for next year? I really don't want 5 classes, but I would hate to wait til next year to start taking it.

Thanks!

this is a good schedule for first quarter. usually most freshmen take 3 classes only, but english comp 3 isn't that bad so your 4 classes are okay. i'd recommend saving japanese 4 for next year if you place in. it's better to get rid of requirements now as well as start on your major. if you place into japanese 4, you'll have fulfilled foreign language anyway, so japanese would just be an elective class, whereas the classes you've listed above fulfill requirements that need to be met.

thanks kfc4u. btw, have you taken any of the clusters before? i was wondering if you know anything about the IRD and the Sex from bio to society clusters. I already read about the course descriptions but i want to know more details about them.

somebuddy: i found it at ucla's schedule of classes http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/
for each course there's a link called Crs info and once you click there it gives you a brief description

VTEC: it's not biotech and society. there's one called sex from biology to gendered society. i'm assuming it's new since nobody knows much about it?

ucapplicant:i hope you're not taking biotech just for the 2nd quarter

GE cluster descriptions (click on cluster, then click on "Crs info"):
http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedu...t1=Get+Classes

the sex from biology to gendered society cluster is new. sounds interesting.

i took the biotech cluster. you can search previous threads for my comments about it but if you have any questions, then post here

Ooops. I totally screwed that sentence up.

I meant: "During the 2nd quarter of biotech [last year], I heard that there was gonna be a cluster about sex... "

Hopefully that's better.

Thanks you guys! I'm pretty sure I'm going to major in a life science, but there's around a 10 % chance I won't. I was wondering if the Math 30 series is really a lot more difficult than the 3 series.
