| I'm really interested in being a journalist, so I've been looking at USC's Annenberg...(sin! I know ). But I thought the quality of the poli sci/IR/geography departments (all areas I'm really interested in learning about/writing about) would be better at UCLA. What kind of careers besides journalism do people go into with degrees in those fields? Are there a lot of kids interested in journalism at UCLA, even though there's no j-school? |

| groovinhard,
I know a few people who went on to do journalism work after UCLA.
With poli sci, your career options are pretty broad. Some will go on and do work in the government (think State Dept., CIA, DIA, NSA, etc.) or even local government.
Others will go work for private firms and make money.
Still others go into the non-profit sector and help out with development issues abroad. Many many options.
As far as journalism interest goes, just ask the people at the Daily Bruin. |

| Kind of OT, but what alternative careers are out there for someone interested in going into law? I guess what I'm saying is, what other type of jobs require the same type of skills / responsibilities of a lawyer? |

Are undergrads allowed to study in the law library? Do you need some sort of pass? |

I'm pretty sure undergrads are allowed in any library. I used to study in the Anderson library...

| I recommend doing CAPPP your last quarter if possible.
At any rate, the best quarter is spring.
As far as EAP goes, it depends on the country and school. Most are for the full year, but some summer and summer and fall only programs exist. |

| Tell me more about CAPPP and EAP admissions process.
Aside from meeting the minimum GPA requiremtns for EAP, what else was required of you.
In two weeks the applications for Spring of 08 will be available for ROme, which i plan on applying to , besides the minumum 2.5 what else do we have to do to get selected, how tough is competition. |

| EAP is pretty much first come first served. Just be prepared to do TONS of paperwork.
You have been warned. Duly warned.
CAPPP looks for 3.5+ GPA and good research potential. |

| So how fast do i have to get there to get a seat? Like if i apply within the first month am i good to go?
How much money would u say you need on top of financial aid to go abroad?
Also do they increase your financial aid package to cover your EAP experience?
What would you suggest more CAPPP or EAP. I am leaning toward EAP, i can only do one or the other. Only reason i am leaning toward EAP is b/c of location. what you think? |

| If you have to do one or the other, I recommend EAP. For one, EAP is going to take you out of your "comfort zone" a bit more than CAPPP.
That, and EAP is pretty much guaranteed as long as you apply on time. CAPPP only admits about 50%. |

| ive always wondered how well a political science major helps a person who is seeking a more international and global focus. i know that political science and international relations are two different majors so if i attend a school that doesn't offer an IR major, would poli sci suffice? or should i rather go to a school that actually offers an IR major? im asking this because most UCs don't offer IR. thanks in advance for the help. |

| 024,
You can always study IR from within the political science discipline. You get largely the same material. |
