Video tour from Colleigate CHoice? or REAL TOUR?

I am wondering whether I should just buy some videos and watch them whether than just going there.

The videos are from http://www.collegiatechoice.com/

I will probably get the ones for UC davis, UC irvine, UCLA, and UCSD. I am going to one of these colleges in the fall and I want to see them before I choose, I am having a tough time deciding. I can also just take a week off of work ( I am a senior and work 25-30 hours/week during the schoolyear) and drive there and actually visit the campus. But I am really short on money and I am wondering if these videos are worth it (fifteen bucks each).

Anybody seen these videos before? Is it really worth it to drive there? btw, how old are these videos?

where do u live?
you can do Davis, La and UCSD almost in the same day if you live in socal, and just get the video for Davis

visiting Davis was a surprise for us...much nicer than we expected

a DVD cant even come close to a real tour. would you rather watch a DVD of europe or go visit it?

you can hit all the socal UC's in a day or two. UCR/UCI/UCLA arent that far from each other. UCSD is a bit further....~2-3 hours from LA.

if you're in socal, then theres no reason why you shouldnt at least visit the socal campuses. if you're in norcal, theres no reason why you shouldnt visit davis. set aside a few days during your spring break (if it hasnt passed yet) and visit schools. schools in your area (ie UCD/UCB/UCSC for norcal and UCLA/UCI/UCR/UCSD for socal) can be done on weekends.

you can even get a few friends together and do a mini road trip and split the cost of gas/lodging. you wont regret actually visiting the schools. however, you may regret basing your decision on a DVD.

exaaactly. this is what i did during my spring break senior year and it turned out to be a great decision. nothing beats visiting the actual campuses.

that colleigatechoice site looks old, if you really can't tour the campus (which I suggest you do), this site is pretty good.

it's like MTV-style tours, but check out the videos, they'r interesting, I hope that helps

Dude. Real tour. You won't get the feel of a campus and its surrounding neighborhood on a dvd, no matter how well done it is.

agree 100% with the posters urging you to visit. The videos have a role in perhaps getting a sense of where to apply, but now that you have acceptances in hand you want to visit the place where you'll spend 4+ years of your life! I think VTEaddict put it best with the analogy about a DVD trip to Europe.

10 years from now you won't remember at all what you did with the money you earned from working an extra 30 hours your senior year in HS. But you WILL remember your college experiences, so it's worth giving up that income today to help make sure you're making the right choice for college.
