Am I Admitted???????

I'm a music major and was placed on an alternate list of 6 people. I am the second. Basically, as an alternate, I get to replace admitted students who dont want to attend.

Today I called (again) and they told me that a couple of alternates are in, and that they would need approval from the (music?) professors.

I'm second on the list. I am psyched.

But is there a chance that I might be officially rejected?

one more thing; I didn't appeal or email or send a letter of showing my interest because the admissions officer told me it was unnecessary

Should I send an appeal before their decisions come out anyways?

This is interesting. blackhair you will really just have to wait it out. Even if you are ranked number 2 it means nothing. If UCLA needs a chello player and theres only one and he/she is ranked 6, he/she will get it.They will recruit need based more then merit based at this point so until you see that congratulations on your screen or in your mail, pretend as if nothing with UCLA is going on because there is nor eal way to predict what UCLA needs

thanks for the replies

actually, i am 2 of 6 for piano only, and the admissions officer implied that it is in order of likeliness of admittance.

What do you mean by "imply"? Clearly you want to hear the good news, but if you're interpreting everything with that bias, clearly you'll also be processing things slanted towards that as well. Overall, your chances are good since the other students got in, but do consider that nothing so far is guaranteed, and it's better to still remain in the "anxious student" mentality rather than be disappointed later on. Best of luck and I hope it works out!

Cross your fingers. My D is music major in vocal performance, just received the acceptance today but is not going to go. She will send the rejection this weekend. She had decided on Rice and this does not change her mind. As a matter of fact, she had not returned the wait list form since she had decided but they sent acceptance anyway.

singersmom: why did your daughter receive her acceptance so late? was she in alternate or did she appeal? I was also accepted to Rice, coincidentally, but I found it wasn't for me.

She apparently was wait listed. Her first letter said she would hear after May 1. She did not send in anything telling them to keep her on a list. Rice fit her personality, she liked the studio she was assigned. Although she liked UCLA too they did not offer any money. We are out of state so it was too expensive without it anyhow. .
