is there certain classes thats recommended for engineers to take? im a civil eng major who don't know what to take at all... anyone got any suggestions?

Go to the following link, then download the most current announcement. The 4 yr plan for Civil Engineering is towards the end of the book.

If this is going to be your first quarter, then the orientation counselors will help you pick classes and sign up. Or you go can just look at the 4 year plan in the engineering website.

Take the following courses:

CEE 1
English Composition 3
Math 31B/32A
Chemistry 20A


If you got a 5 on 20A, then replace Chemistry 20A with a GE. Or if you consider yourself as lazy, then take the first three courses. Very easy c ourses. You should get As.

im sort of in the same situation as him.

i plan on majoring civil engineering (or mechanical) still unsure what to choose. But the problem is that i do not know if i intend to stay in engineering major saying that the worst possible situation that i drop out because of the high drop rate. My other possible major is somewhat in the business direction.

Would there be some sort of classes that i can take that will satisfy both majors?

hey Boelterhall, is there any prerequisites on math 31b/32a? or chem 20a? like certain ap score or something?

Start with the math courses like calculus. It will satisfy just about any science major, so if you decide to switch majors later on, you won't be too behind on classes. I had problem deciding on life sciences or engineering so i just took all the possible math courses until i decided which direction i wanted to go.

kick53rv3 - You need a score of 5 on the calculus BC AP to enroll in 32A. A score of 4 on the BC test or a 5 on the AB test will enable you to enroll in 31B.

In addition to math, take physics 1 series. It is also required for almost every science major.

I guess i'll start with 31a then since I got a 3 on the ap test... is there any requirement for 31a then? and who should I take it from: KHITRIK or VALDIMARSSON? I can't find any info on those two professors at bruinwalk, oh yeah and if I schedule my classes is it better to have lunch at 10 and class at 11 then go straight into the next class or should i have a class at 10am and go back up for lunch at 11 and come back down to take another class at 12?

how about for a bioengineering major? i have the paper that suggests which classes to take quarter by quarter, but i'm curious to know what you guys think incoming freshie bioengineers should take.

kick53rv3 - I personally like it better to have class back to back. Because you probably won't eat lunch.

kenshinx08 - I would say a math class (31A or 31B or 32A), the bioengineering seminar, chem 20A, and English composition 3/Physics 1A or 1B
