College Honors Program / Honors Collegium

I know there are several of you Honors kids on the board - __allie__, liyana179...

So anyway - what have your experiences been like with the additional honors sections to XYZ class? I don't really care about the additional requirements - does asking a professor if there's honors credit available for XYZ class at all make you cynical/skeptical of "Honors"? How have your HC courses been? Which ones did you take? What kind of courses did you take as Honors? I would think that say having Honors in something like Philosophy would be more... traditionally acceptable as opposed to... Honors in History of the American Economy 20th century just because of the nature of the work and the connotations with a traditional concept of classical subjects and their associated intellectualism. Anyway, discuss! Also, how does CHP reflect ideas surrounding the Western Canon or is its program just not as comprehensive or integrated?

ah, emmeline re-emerges... again...

just IM me sometime xD

in brief: stats 10 plus honors section (stats 89) was totally worth it. even if it's not an intellectual/philosophical type of honors class, it personalized the material and gave me one-on-one time with the prof. otherwise it would have been another class i didn't care for.
HC 56 was AMAZING. language as window to the mind. frickin' awesome. loved the material and the prof and the easy grading!
i haven't added an honors contract to a class before. am not planning to unless i need the units.
am planning on comm studies 10 and 89, and some HC class down the road.

western canon, whatever the heck that is, can wait =P

I think Honors is extremely fragmented. It's not associated with any particular subject; rather it's just "you have challenged yourself" and still did well enough. Frankly, people see it as a priority pass in the short term. In the long term, just another "sticker" on your degree and a nicer graduation.

Oh liyana179 - History of Modern Thought? I think that says everything... OK maybe not really. =)

ucapplicant05: yeah I was thinking the same thing... was just hoping/praying someone would convince me otherwise.

Who are you talking to MrSpam?

Hi! though!

I think you think I'm Emmeline Wong - not the case!
