Just accepted into UCLA Theatre. Anyone know how many students in the Theatre or Musical Theatre Programs?

Is there ANY way to do a double major in Theatre and Engineering at UCLA?

I don't think you're allowed to do it. First of all, UCLA has a maximun unit cap and they'll grant petitions within reason (usually gives leeway to a certain point). An engineer's courseload is rigorous alone and the overlap in the major's required classes are hardly any with a theatre major so you're looking to take twice the amount of the allotted units. Also, you'd probably be looking at 8 years as an undergraduate or enrolling in classes all day long (which isnt possible with the unit cap per quarter- leeway granted to a certain extent).

yea, im reading jyancy's post, i dont think its possible to double in those two based solely on the amount of units you'll be taking.

I know this guy who double-majored in Biz-Econ and Computer Science. His body turned into black-carbon mush a few months ago.

Well, I have done alot of theatre and singing and it has been where my circle of friends have been. I really enjoy theatre and I want to continue doing performing but need to get training as it gets more competitive as an adult. If something great happened and I did it as a profession, great, but I am realistic, know what the chances of that are and love computers and programing. If I am not doing theatre, I am fiddling with programs and think a career as an engineer is where I am best suited.

Can someone tell me about this maximum unit cap and how it works? How do you request a petition and how many hours do they usually allow? If I get GE's in the summer at a community college, would this make it possible? I am pretty determined to do the double major. USC and Stanford seem more open to doing this, but the theatre training is probably not as good.

MT programs are highly selective and would not allow time for another major. It might be better to consider just theatre, not MT if you want to double like that. Maybe best to do a minor in acting. Good luck.
