| @ the beginning of the year the administration was saying how this is the 1st year that they have dedicated transfer dorms. several sunset village houses are transfer-only as others have mentioned. however if you and your friends request each other you may not be together w/ the other transfers...i know someone who is rooming w/ his friend and their neighbors are all freshmen/underclassmen (de neve) |

| that's probably because the hilgard houses are closed next year, so they want someplace only for transfers.
parts of delta terrace will be transfers-only.
i'm less sure that a transfer would be placed with a third-year. you'd prolly have to go in person to check it out, because you simply can't request each other like fellow students can since the housing signups are at different times. so it's probably the same deal as current students wanting to live with freshman. try the FAQ on the housing website. |

| Yeah, that was my concern, that the times would be different. Does anyone know approximately when transfer students do their housing?
(To clarify, I'm currently at UCLA and my friend wants to transfer after next year. I'm just asking in advance.) Thanks for the responses! |

| Well, you can always request a CAR after their sign ups and assignments. You'll be able to put you and your friend's name on there. |

| that's probably the best bet.
if you're currently at UCLA, you know that your housing signups are in march. transfers don't know decisions until april. |

| Are the dorms really that bad? I'm torn between staying in an apartment or staying in one of the dorms for the experience. (transfer student by the way)
Think I'm better off looking for an apartment? |

| no, dorms aren't that bad.
it's just not a place you want to spend 3 years of your life. one is perfectly fine, and a great way to transition to ucla. i'd recommend one year of dorms (unless you think you're already too independent, in which case, you would go nuts not having a kitchen or a car). then you can just do an apartment. |

| Yeah, I was thinking just for a year too. I would go nuts not having a kitchen for anything longer. Been living independently in an apartment for 3 years already.
But if dorms do help with transitioning to UCLA and making friends, i guess i could live with the price and lost privacy for a year. |

| for four year students stay in the dorms AT LEAST one year, preferably two. transfers, good idea to do your first year in the dorms (if you're a younger age, like 20-23), but not completely necessary. it will help you get adjusted and a feel for ucla |

| yes dorms help with transitioning but only if you're active about it. live in a res hall- not like you really have an option though if its your first year entering or first year transfer. leave your door open, get to know people, get involved in floor gov, do social stuff with your floor, etc. if you go to the dorms and leave your door shut and wait for ppl to come to you then you might as well just stay in an apartment |
