i can probably get my math score up; i got a 670 on my psats. actually, i got a 640 in reading too, so there is a chance i could get that up. but really math is much more of a strength for me.

9th grade, i took honors geometry and honors science, but academic english and social studies, and only academic spanish was offered. all As and A-s.
10th grade, honors english, social studies, precalc, spanish, and bio. all A-s for the year except an A- in gym/health and a B+ in half of my social studies (it was split into american political system and us history, two separate classes.)
11th grade, AP english language, AP physic n/m, AP calc ab, honors spanish, honors social studies. B in english, B+ in physics, all the rest As, for now. 1st term gpa was 4.2, 2nd marking period 4.5, third 4.4.
12th grade, taking AP stat, AP calc bc, AP spanish, but then only academic english and social studies.
and then i've also taken electives of course, just like communications, photo, cooking, etc.

i'll probably end up borderline top 10%. our school doesn't rank, but the have the GPAs of each percent on the website. last year's top 10% was 3.93+.
it's hard to predict this year though, cuz they just started weighting honors by .25.
(all my honors courses from 11th and 12th will be weighted, from 9th and 10th are not.)

i don't really have extracurriculars. i have a job i've held since october, i work anywhere from 12-30 hours a week, now the average is around 12-15, around the holidays it was more 22-30.
but yeah, that's it.
no real significant awards, i mean, honor roll and all that, but nothing special.


so yeah, i assume i'm a stretch.
if you have other college suggestions for me though, throw them out there.

My daughter was recently admitted to UCLA for this coming fall. She had 630 reading, 760 math and a 700 in writing. Also a 4.3 weighted GPA. She had many friends who were 4.0+ who were not admitted. UCLA received 55,000 apps this year so it has become incredibly competitive. What set her apart, I think, was her essay (about leadership) and tons of ec's. She has always been extremly involved at her school, not to pad her applications, but because she genuinely enjoys being involved and making a difference. Some examples: Editor of yearbook, Junior class president, captain of the cheerleaders, student ambassador...lots of awards and community service and she has worked all through junior and senior year (although only about 10 hours per week during the school year).

Your grades and scores are good but you probably need to add some meaningful extra curriculars. Something you genuinely enjoy. It's better to have depth in one or two areas than to have 10 different things you just dabbled in. In the past UCLA might have been a match for you but now with things so competitive they are really looking for well rounded students who will contribute to the school community. So, go for it but just make sure you have 2-3 safety schools on your list that you would enjoy attending. Good luck to you.

hey ll0124 just as Inquiringmind2 said....try to stand out with your college essay and extracurriculars(i know u dont have extracurriculars but try to join some sports teams or get involved in some organisations if u can)...because i just recently got accepted to the fall to ucla and i thought i wouldnt...im not sure how much my gpa was cuz my school doesnt use the gpa system,all i no was that i was an a+ student,i got a sat composite of 1800 and i thought i wouldnt get in and some of my friends as qualified as me didnt get in with like 2000+ sat's bcz i think their essays werent that good enough...trust me...work really hard on your essay and try to make it stand out...itll give u a good edge in ur application...hope u do well in ur next week sat's...
