Waitlists at UCLA

Hi

I'm an incoming transfer student from UCSD. The waitlists here are crazy, and if you're not one of the early kids to sign up (based on your # of units), you have to waitlist and hope you get in the class. (I'm talking about the science classes here).

So, is it the same at UCLA? Do they base your registration time by your Year and # of units? Are the waitlists crazy?

Thanks ^^

waitlists are based on class standing (number of units). there is, however, priority enrollment for some people which comes before regular enrollment. waitlists usually aren't too crazy (people will either drop before the quarter even starts, or at least within the first 2 weeks of class). sometimes profs will increase the section size to absorb the waitlisted students. i can't speak for science/south campus classes, but those are probably more crazy than other classes.

endersgame, I'm a biochem major and in my four years here, I've never had a problem getting into a class that I've been waitlisted for. In fact, I think I've only ever had to sign up on the waiting list for a max of two or three classes. I'm not sure which dept you're in but, in my experience with the chem and biochem dept, they are always pretty good at getting you into the classes you need. and I second what liyana said about the waitlists - most of the time enough people drop before and within the first few weeks of the start of class so that if you're a few people down on the waitlist (or even near the bottom for a particular section,) you'll most likely get in the class.
