what are the lectures like compared to the discussions? i'm guessing the lectures are more of the professor talking and the discussions are more focused on the students. which are more crucial to your grade (i'm guessing the discussions). im planning on taking spanish 5 and chinese 1 next quarter and i wanted to space it out so i could have time to review a little bit in between. yay comparative literature.

So far I've taken one week of Chinese this summer. As you guessed, the lectures mostly consist of the professor lecturing, and the discussions mainly consist of students practicing speaking. The grading is mostly based on homework, quizzes, and exams, which are turned in or taken in the lecture section. If I could, I would take classes for more than one language, too.

Lectures are mainly the professor speaking and with discussions there is more interactivity with the students. Both lecture and discussion are important as your attendance will be kept track of in both.

In lecture you will take your exam, and in discussion you will be graded for participation points, quizzes, skits and homework.
