Honors Classes (physics)

Why is it that people here on the forum mostly want to take Physics Honors (which isn't offered this coming year)? Honors doesn't give you extra GPA points like it does in High School, does it? What's the benefit of taking honors classes?

Honors classes can fulfill requirements for college honors, for one thing.

I have a question to add: how many honors units does one get from a GE cluster? I need 8 units minimum for my first year to stay in honors.

If I'm not mistaken, you get 15 units of honors credit for the year-long cluster. 5 units a quarter.
