how many people in a regular class?

ok.. so I was wondering how many students are in a regular class room... like math 3a or chem 14a? what's the average size of people in a ucla classroom?

Depends on the class, from as low as 15 up to prob ~500 at least.

most my math classes are around 100-150 depending on the professor (Hitrik had like 150 while Valdimarsson only had less than 100, we can all fit into one room and skip seats when taking midterms and it is at ms4200 so not too big) chem is more like 350, at least scerri's class had 350 for both quarters, take his class if you can, pretty good professor while the class is kinda easy because everything is on the course reader, I never opened my chem book and it costed me like 200 bucks

most of my classes lately have been 20-40.

I think the Chemistry 14 and 20 series enroll the most students for south campus. Chemistry 20B had two lectures of about 350-400 students each in a hot quarter (Winter). I don't know if any classroom can hold 500 students, except the auditorium in Royce.

It doesn't matter how big the class is, just sit in the front if you want to pay attention.

Also during chemistry lectures probably at least 1/5 of the students skip (anyways, that's just trivial information).

Boelter, sitting in from does not help you focus. I fell asleep in cs50 IN THE CENTER OF THE FRONT ROW, 3 times. Like completely knocked out. I've done this multiple times in summer school at PCC too and I am in the 3rd row. No on sits in the 2nd or 1st row cept one super nerd guy who sits in the 1st row, so I might as well be in the 1st row, and I am dead center there also.

Buddy system works well if you fall asleep. Unless you both fall asleep. Pink fell asleep hardcore in LS2 and it was front row too, but then we were off in a corner. The prof came right up to her and lectured there though, I think he was doing it on purpose and it was hilarious.

I think that you have a different view on the statement

. It was meant to say that IF you want to pay attention, you SHOULD sit in the front so that you MAY be able to focus. This doesn't guarantee that you will concentrate on the lecture; that depends on the personality and will of the student.

Sitting in the front is just a "tool" that allows you to be less distracted. Like Emmeline said, sitting in the front SHOULD generate a degree of fear of what is stated above. Whether you fall asleep or not after hearing this is up to your ... sanity and values. : )
