Econ Major

Alright...so I have not taken any of the pre-reqs to be an econ major yet. yikes. I am an incoming sophomore, and I basically took first year to fulfill most of my GE's and decide what I'm going to be doing. So far I enrolled in math 31a and econ 2...and my next signup is at 5 pm today.

Is it possible to finish all the econ pre-reqs this year? and if i can't, will I be able to do it in the summer? I just want to finish this before declaring my major at the start of junior year...

any help would be good...i am stressing out thanks.

im in exactly the same boat, and think it should be fine. u just need to do econ 2, 11 and 101 in succession, and you have three quarters so you can make it. 31 a + 31 b and econ 41 is another class per quarter.
Are you planning to do International econ or bizecon? I'm planning bizecon and it's achievable adding management 1a and 1b to two quarters. International econ would require a summer session to do 102 too.

Basically you're looking at.

Fall
Econ 2
Math 31A
Man 1a

Winter
Econ 11
Math 31B
Man 1b

Spring
Econ 101
Econ 41

That still leaves 1 slot first two quarters and 2 classes spring quarter for you to fill with ur own stuff or leave empty.

Taking the econs in sucssion is the most important thing, so be sure to use ur priority/first pass on 11 and 101.

don't worry, that's exactly what happened to me. i did not decide on my major until my second year, and i finished all the prereqs in that year. if you're planning on being an econ major, you can cross off the mgmt 1a, 1b, and econ 101. example:

FALL
Math 31a
Econ 1

WINTER
Math 31b
Econ 2

SPRING
Econ 11
Econ 41

and if you haven't taken the writing II class, you could throw that anywhere in there. it won't be a difficult class.

well otherwise econ 11 + econ 41 + man 1b, and 101 and 31b in spring.

for my personal plan, having passed out of 31a and 31b it's,

fall
Econ 2, Japanese 1, English 142A, Econ 41
Winter
Econ 11, Japanese 2, Econ 140A Hnrs 70A (for ge)
Spring
Econ 101, Man 1b, Japanese 3, Random Econ class( i need two upper dive major classes to declare double major)

Summer
any retakes i need =P

pretty packed schedule, but im satisfying requirements for two different majors + extra upper div + honors units, and if i can plan to fit that in, just econ major alone shouldn't be difficult.

Wow, Japanese + 3 other classes. Possible to manage + do well in everything, but I wouldn't want to try. Japanese takes up a lot of time =(.

hmmm well im usually pretty gd with languages + im hoping chinese'd help with the kanji XD but yeah i'll see how it goes =S if it's too hard i could drop it. Also hoping the english classes would give me a bit of a breather.
Spring quarter is the scariest of course, Econ 101, man 1b, random econ class + jap 3, but if it doesnt look like i'll need my summer session to retake anything i'll stick the random econ class in summer, and just have 3...

Ah, just a warning. The only people that didn't worry about Japanese too much were 1) people who literally soaked up Japanese like a sponge and 2) People who had previous Japanese + extreme interest in it. It's not so much the studying that becomes a problem (vocab and kanji take at most 45ish minutes with as little as 20 minutes), but the homework/oral presentations/essays/etc become the problem. I'm sure you'll do fine. It's definitely not hard. It's just a lot of grunt work.
