Acting/Theater on campus for non-film/theather majors?

So I was wondering if UCLA has any type of organization or associations that puts on plays, student films, or any type of productions for students that are willing to audition (and these students don't necessarily have to be theater or film orientated majors either; auditions open to all students). You know how in high school you can try out for a school play? I'm wondering if UCLA has anything like that because I am interested in acting just for the fun of it. I've been in 4 plays during high school and mostly participated in my junior year and senior year, so I'd just like to keep doing it in college if possible just because I really enjoy doing it and I think it's really fun. Consider it a hobby.

Oh wow, CC needs more theatre people here to keep you guys informed.

There is Shakespeare at UCLA which does like 2 or 3 shows a year. Sometimes they are hit or miss though. Their last two shows weren't really that good.

But you should know about Hooligan Theatre Company. Like mentioned it is entirely student run. However, they actually do three shows a year. The group is starting its 4th season this year. We do a Fall show, a Winter Musical, and a Spring black box show (either musical or whatnot). This last year we did Neil Simons' Fools, Bat Boy, and tick, tick...Boom!

Hooligan is great cause it really is theatre for all majors and there really aren't many opportunities on campus for you to do such a high level of professional theatre. Our Winter musical has a reaaaally high production value (of course we also reallllly need more money for next year) and the quality level is great. (Off the record you can go on YouTube and search for clips of Bat Boy, or the year before we did Thoroughly Modern Millie, to get an idea).

Anyways, I know a lot about Hooligan because I'm their Casting Director. So if you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them for you.

The time commitment is whatever you want it to be for pretty much any theatre on campus. I know people who live and breathe Hooligan, and I know people who do one show a year in a minor part and only spend a few hours a week at rehearsals.

Auditions for Hooligan's Fall show haven't been officially announced yet (because we haven't officially announced our season). However it is very likely that tech/director interviews will be 1st week and acting auditions will be 2nd week. Hooligan will have a table at the giant zero week activities fair so you should def stop by. I'm pretty sure we'll have all the official info by then.
