So I was talking to my friend at USF who just moved in and he said that he brought his router to hook up in his room. However, he said that the speeds of just directly connecting to the school wireless and to his router was the same thing and that it had no difference.

Can anyone confirm this or share their experience for UCLA regarding routers/wireless internet in their rooms.

And how are the wireless internet speeds at the Dykstra halls?


I was planning on bringing a router for my room as well but if it isn't going to make a difference I might plan on leaving it behind.

Wireless in Dykstra sucks (at least it did on my floor). A router helps a lot. Your speed is only limited by the type of router you have.

I would say that wireless from your wireless router would be much faster than the school's wireless. But either way, ethernet is going to be the fastest

If triples are only going to have two ethernet ports, at least a router could function as an ethernet hub if you still want to maximize your browsing speed.

i find it using just a regular b/g router was enough, i stream a lot of soccer, espn360 and all that stuff on wireless and it works fine... unless you are trying to download huge files all the time you won't need much faster than that, plus you can always plug a cable into the router to make it faster but less portable
