So there is mail.ucla.edu as well as the mail server through myUCLA. I've never been able to read emails in HTML through mail.ucla.edu--they always come out in plain text. I recall that myUCLA had graphics, though. But then why are there two separate e-mail websites in the first place? Is one better than the other?

Why not? Anyone can set up a webmail site. It uses the same process as your email program. I mostly use my email program to read my mail. I think mail.ucla.edu is the official one. Is the MyUCLA one better? Probably. Use whatever suits you.
