Hi all,
I am majoring in engineering and wanted to drop a not impacted physics class. As fourth passed, it is considered as late drop. I submitted a petition for that and they told me it would take around 1 week for them to decide whether i can drop.
I wonder whether my drop request would be declined or approved. Is it common to have drop request declined?

No - in fact, I can't believe it would take a week to decide. I did one late drop of an upper div philosophy class, and all I had to do was get the professor to sign a consent form for me to drop (which he happily did).

Yes, it is common for Boelter to say no to your decline request. Unless you were hit with a bout of H1N1 or something similar to that effect, have a full-time job, commute for more than 4 hours per day and have a part-time job, Boelter will probably not let you drop the class. If you are in engineering, why are you taking a non-impacted physics class? Unless it is a seminar of sorts. However, perhaps the fact that it is non-impacted with help your situation slightly...

Like kpier said, it's REALLY tough unless you have a pretty darn good reason. (speaking from experience as I was denied =/).

Sorry to hijack the thread but if I wanted to drop an impacted LS class (I am a psychobio major) due to health issues, how likely do you guys think my chances are?

There are plenty of ways to cheat the system in the engineering dept as long as you stand your ground. The reasons that kpier stated are valid and also you if you are taking 5+ classes then the petition will be approved.

If it's none of the above then the petition will be denied for sure. The last route is to talk to the dean of the department. This might work depending on how you talk to him =P
