I think we should all just give up on UCLA football, cut the program (which is smart, it's the most expensive and the worst in terms of winning), and devote the funds to basketball and the other sports where UCLA has a real chance at winning.

it's really painful watching this season opener and seeing that we have zero offense and a one-man defense. =.=

Idiot. Football brings in millions of dollars in cash. How do you think we pay for all those other sports?

okay, because it's not like they blow through it as quick as they get it.

What do you think to costs for airfare and hotel for upwards of 100 people for two flights and a couple nights?
What does it cost to ship all of their pads and stuff?
What does it cost for busses to haul them once there?
What does it cost to feed them?
What does it cost to rent the Rose Bowl?
What does the school spend on scholarships for some of the players?
What does all the equipment cost (the jerseys/adidas stuff is all free as part of their agreement, but pads, etc...)
What does medical insurance cost for each player (I'm sure Kevin Prince used up a healthy dose last year)
What's Neuheisel's salary? (and all his assistants?)
What do they spend on advertising and promotions?

Wow, you have a lot to learn about college athletics. TV contracts, Rose Bowl tickets, bowl/conference revenue, and donor contributions far, far offset those expenses. Recently the football program has brought in in between $21-24 million in revenue and expenses have added up to about $16-17 million. You're talking about millions and millions of dollars of profit that is reallocated to other sports within the department.

First time watching a game. Prince isn't a great QB but our receivers are horrible. So many dropped passes. Akeem Ayers is a beast on defense. The entire defense played great in the first half (aside from the first drive) and then in the second half, they just let Kansas State run them over.

Anyone who thinks we should cut the football program is completely bigoted.

UCLA football, in spite of its lackluster performance the past decade, generates millions of revenue in regular season tickets, post season bowl tickets, replica jerseys and other clothing merchandise, TV contracts with ABC, ESPN, or other stations, conference revenue, donations from alumni, sponsors from large companies, etc.

Most importantly, our football team gives us publicity. Our football team is on national TV. Whether or not we win, it puts our university on the map. Not everyone is as intellectual as we are and knows everything there is to universities that are on the other side of the country.

The revenue from football also sponsors our other men's and women's NCAA sports team.

UCLA should never and will never cut the football program. Ever.
Kevin Prince is horrible, and the receivers are terrible. Defense including Ayers and Moore is great (with the exception of giving up 220+ rushing yards to Thomas today)

I don't know what it is, but our team needs to get better, the loss today was tough

I thought that Ayers, Larimore, and Dye had great games on the defensive side. The O-line was decent, good news is Mike Harris will be back next week. Kevin Prince looked terrible today, the problem was his timing and decision making. I'd like to see Brehaut play but with a week of practice I will trust that Prince can get the rust out.

I thought that Westgate played the worst on the D today. Missed a few tackles and looks too small. If we played like we did today, the only team in the PAC-10 we will beat is WSU.
