Hey Premed..I am also thinking about going to a CC instead of Merced because I want to transfer but also experience some sort of college life.
Someone from my tutoring place told me that it is very very difficult to transfer to another 4 year from any UC, and those who transfer were on that program that is specially offered to some high school students. Is this true? How did you get into UCLA after 1 year? How many credits did you have?

I am a junior right now, after this semester I should have somewhere close to 74 semester credits under my belt. I would go to a ccc if I were you (MAN I WISH someone told me this before I got here, it really is not worth it to spend 20k+ a year here for an education you can get for $180 living...the college experience here isnt what you expect it to be. Trust me. Its the UC Meced experience (see my list of cons to see what that entails), which is a far cry away from what a college experience should ideally be.

Just looking out for my stuff man. lol. Honestly, the theft at my school is a bigger deal than the fights. Can't let anyone borrow anything because you'll most likely never see it back as they usually "lose" your graphing calculator or let their other friend "see it".

I'm glad no one steals there now but we don't know that with every incoming class...especially if more people live in the neighboring areas and go home on the weekends. Better be safe than stupid. <3

That's good to hear that there aren't any thefts at Merced, around here, people will steal anything that isn't bolted down.

Anyone know if double majors are allowed? If so, I'm assuming I would have to talk with my adviser about that?

Also, can transferability to another school, preferably another UC, be based on major? What are the odds of getting transferred if your intended major is already impacted at the transfer school?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Arian19: If money isnt a problem, hummm. I would say go to UC Merced then. You will still get somewhat of a college experience, as opposed to no college experience.

Your allowed to double major, I would set up an appointment with an advior sometime during your first semester here, to set a list of classes your first few years...it will be packed!

"getting transferred if your intended major is already impacted at the transfer school? "
Some majors are hard to transfer into (Biz-econ @ UCLA) and some are easy (Psychology @ UCI) it really depends.
