Dorms/on-campus, which ones are the best?!

So what i know so far is that

There are two categories of dorms:

Valley Terraces:

Calaveras Hall
Kern Hall
Fresno Hall
Kings Hall
Madera Hall
Merced Hall
San Joaquin Hall
Tulare Hall

Sierra Terraces:

Tuolomne Hall
Mariposa Hall - (which i think opens this Year Fall 2008)

Do any UC Merced student recommend or dont recommend some of these on-campus housing Halls.(like a rating on a scale of 10 or a list of the good and the bad of each housing hall)

I am considering the Mariposa Hall right now because they are brand new, any suggestion whould be helpful. I know for sure i am living on campus by the way.

Thanks

My housing contract was just accepted and I was just about to make a thread similar to this one. But, Adrian19 beat me to it lol.

So,I am also curious. Can freshmans live in any dorm they want? If so which ones are better? and why? Which dorms are more social and which ones can you study more in?

Also please expalin these halls in the valleys
Calaveras Hall=?
Kern Hall=?
Fresno Hall=?
Kings Hall=?
Madera Hall=?
Merced Hall=?
San Joaquin Hall=?
Tulare Hall=?

haha, I would move into one of the Valley Terraces, serach for my posts on this fourm for why that is, I gave a good explaination why they are better than the Sierra Terraces.

As far as rating them goes:
Calaveras Hall=7
Kern Hall=8 (for some reason, everyone in Kern hall makes group sweaters every year, kinda nice to express pride I guess)
Fresno Hall= 7
Kings Hall=7
Madera Hall=10 (Holler, this is where Im @)
Merced Hall=9 (there right by the dinning commons, and are almost as close to the gym as Sierra Terraces and the new dorm.
San Joaquin Hall=6 (there right by the parking lot=lot of car noise all the time)
Tulare Hall=3 (they are right by both the parking lot and the main street leading to the class room buildings, noise is a problem if you want to sleep or something BEEP BEEP lol)

Does anybody know whether I should go for a suite or a dorm as a freshman? What are the pros and cons for each one?

How are the bathrooms and showers?
Are they all like stalls or do we get an actual bathroom for them?

The halls are like apartment suites drawback less interaction with other students. The terraces are like dorms, adjoining room shares common regular bathroom more interaction with students everything is practically new. Dining hall expansion should improve food hopefully.

My D will be in Tulare Hall next yr. She just wanted to see if it was different than the dorm style terraces. Even though she hates the extra walking. It seemed to me to be more activity at the terraces. IMO

I wanted a single dorm but it seems a single dorm wouldn't be as fun as having a double/triple. Plus it might take away from our "college experience". What do you guys think?

I did the app thing but it didnt show the single dorm option...only double/triple. I think doubles = college experience with dirty roomie = annoyance after awhile OR you can make a good friend lol
