| TerpDad-
How is your D doing at Merced? Does she have any complaints?
Im not really the "hiking/fishing" type...growing up in a city/major suburb I can't picture myself climbing rocks and stuff lol
I plan to study my butt off though....hmm
By the way, can you introduce me to some OC people? I want to get somekind of organized carpool going... |

| I will be honest. She applied to six colleges with about a 3.5 gpa and SAT 1850 and exemplary EC's. This all before I discovered this web site. She was rejected by all of them. She was heartbroken at the rejection. She and I felt she worked her fanny off all for naught. Like many of you, we did not even know UCM existed until they contacted us. I could not talk her into going here at first . We started looking at CSUN, CSM,CSF. I made her promise before she made up her mind to visit UCM. THe school 's ambience, the caliber of the other students compared to the other campuses listed convinced her Wise Old Dad was right! At first she complained {see Premed4life} but now she has embraced the opportunities the school offers with enthusiasm. First semester she earned 3.54 gpa. Some of the tougher classes due curve here. She is becoming involved in starting some clubs on campus Possibilities are endless! |

| Her room mate is from O.C , Mission Viejo Lots of kids up there are from SoCal and commute on breaks. I promised her she could transfer if she wasn't happy there . Which, Made it easier for her to admit here. She has made many friends which makes that option more and more difficult to choose. |

No need to worry about this, Merced is bascially a plain, no hills for 50+ miles.
Terpdad: There is a difference between complaining, and informing others about the realities of UCM. Im happy to hear your daughter is having a good time here, heck I probably even know her lol. But, sadly her experience is not typical of the average UCM student.

| Thanx TerpDad for explaining what goes on the orientation and I'm glad your daughter is having fun at UCM.
I also applied to 6 colleges and was rejected from the all. UCR and UCM are the only ones who picked me up. I was haeart broken at first too, but once i visited Merced the school 's "ambiance" was perfect for me! I am really glad that I choose UCM over UCR, Pomona, Sonoma, and CCC. |

| My D came from a small high school but very competitive .So UCM seemed to be a perfect fit for her less stress to achieve success. My D took summer classes at the local CC and felt that the classes weren't properly preparing her for the U.C. curriculum. |

| Aznxkaiser dude, you already know what I'm going to say. Dude I don't want you to hate me later because you hate UCM. It's your choice. May be you should reread some of the post in UCM's forum...UCM is like TerpDad said,"less stress to achieve success." I totally agree with him.
To Premed4life:
UCM can't be that bad...I'm sure I'm going to love it.
To all:
Merced is the UC of opportunity...think about that. |
