UCM Orientation

My previous UCM Orientation thread wasn't broad enough so....

If your coming to UCM this fall 2008, then State which Orientation you will be attending this summer. This will be a good way to meet your future "best friend" or future "roommate".

For me: July 11th

Orientation dates are:
July 11th
July 14th
July 18th
July 25th
July 28th
August 1st

If your not sure which day you will be attending then go here and get started:

Who else thinks it's BS that we have to pay for "orientation"? To me, it should be included in the high costs we are already paying to attend the UC.

The additional fee for a guest just sounds like another gimmick to squeeze some more money out of us. Honestly, if we can be charged so much for something that should be done as a courtesy on behalf of the school, I don't know what else we can't be charged for.

I'm sorry if my reaction seems a little dramatic but every dollar counts. My family qualifies as middle-class which translated to ZERO financial aid. And if this is common practice at all UC's, I wonder how all the parent's scrape up enough dough for these occasions.

My family is also considered middle class and I feel so bad making my parents pay 20,000+ for four years. lol But it's worth it.

For me Financial aid= unsubsidized loans!<--------"UGH!"
lol

The guest fees are a little outrageous, I agree. I don't know why they're making it cost seeing the fact that they are only providing food and from what I hear the foods not even that good. But they do have a new dinning hall so, it should be delicious.

To fusionall:
I'm not sure if all of the UC's do this so I'm made a thread in the "college life" forum so we can find out...
Orientation cost?

I had this same reaction when my D and I went through this process a yr. ago. After the initial meet and greet, they separate college kids from the parents. They inform each group separately about the U.C.'s expectations and policies. Answer questions that you might not want your parents to know and vice versa. During this process you get the opportunity to bond with possible future room mates. I chuckled when they discussed separation anxiety consuling for parents. They told some very funny incidents of " clingy "parents.
