Electrical Engineering at Merced?

Does anyone know what the plans are to have an EE major available at UC-Merced? All I could find on their website was that it would be coming in the future. This tidbit was buried on the CE graduate page. I've emailed several administrators in the engineering dept but have had no responses.

Yes, that's the page I found. What does "soon" mean, exactly? 2009? 2029?

My S is a junior in high school now, and he has his heart set on EE. Right now it seems too risky for him to be considering Merced if all they offer is CE. He's emphatically not interested in CE as a major.
