One quick question...

I really want to become a dentist and I want to go to a UC school, but it seems that the only UC I could probably get into will be UCM. I know that Dental School is required to become a dentist, and I was wondering if there are any dental programs or something along those lines at UCM. Or would I have to go to UCM and then transfer to a dental school?Sorry I'm such a noob at this college stuff. I'm actually a junior at high school right now, but I want to get all my stuff planned ahead of time. Thanks in advance.

Pizzahutmaster, I'm sure you'll be able to get into UCR too.

Maybe, but I would like to go to UC Merced more. I would be able to be away from home for a while. I live too close to UCR.

To Pizzahutmaster:

Dental school is a separate program after attaining your undergraduate degree, meaning you graduate first and then attend dental school.

As for dental specific programs, there are none currently at UCM. However, there is pre-health advising here on campus. I find that the natural sciences advisers know what they are taking about most of the time, so it is relatively safe following what they have to say.

Anyways, you don't really need a dental-specific program to get into dental school. Here's what you need to do:

- Get a good gpa in college (3.7 or higher)
- Get a good score on your DAT (Dental Admissions Test)
- Get involved with undergraduate research

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Most professional/graduate school requires you to take undergraduate courses to be able to apply for admission. UCM or any other university can help you complete those requirements to get into professional/graduate school.

Like fusionall said: keep your gpa high, DAT high, and do undergraduate research.
But also, do some extracurricular activities, join a club, volunteer work, and do shadowing of dentists.
