that's a trick question! Only the top 12.5% of the graduating seniors in CA qualify to apply...

So which is the correct answer: UCM is a 90% acceptance rate university, or 90% of 12.5%?

It is my understanding that Merced accepts every qualified student that applies.

For Fall 2008, the acceptance rate was 82% University of California - Admissions , but - as mikemac says - it is likely that the 18% not admitted were not UC-eligible. I don't believe the 2009 rate has been published yet.

ok, I found the link for 2008 admissions. I think they're doing the same this year.

The news of the rise in applications comes at a time when some UC campuses might decide to hold down their enrollments because of budget cuts. However, since UC Merced has the green light for growth, qualified applicants won't have to be turned away.

As far as I knoe, UCM was still underenrolled last year. If you did not get in to your preferred UC and still want to attend a UC and want to apply to UCM, you need to apply by appeal since the priority application period has ended, see

is UCM better than UCR or UCSC?

computer science, biology, or those kind of majors.

The acceptance rate are usually released in May. Due to the California budget cuts for colleges I wouldn't be to surprise if the acceptance rate are lower than last year.
Here is some news about the application rates:

@solong
I don't know about UCR or UCSC but, UCM has a natural science program, engineering pro, and a social science,humanity, and arts program. Biological science and bioengineering are the two top majors in UCM.
