accepted but didn't apply...
My son got an email saying that he was accepted to UCM because he was turned down at another UC. Anyone else get this? THe only UC's he applied to were UCI, UCSB, UCSC and UCD. Denied at all and plans on attending Cal Poly SLO. Maybe he'll check out UCM.

He is a qualified candidate for the UC system which mean he is in the top 12% in the state, and the UC system guranteeds a spot to all but it may not be at the UC of their choice. Since UC Merced is in great need of students, they will accept him because the UC system wants him to go to a UC becasue he is qualified. Cal Poly SLO is a great school but UC Merced is part of the UC system and to some that is better than any CSU.

It doesn't say in the email. He'll find out when he gets the "formal admission letter" . He's in Business Administration at Poly.

and thanks for the info Gus. Personally I would put Cal Poly way ahead of UC Merced.

go with Cal Poly...

the only reason why it isnt ranked with the national universities is that it isnt really a research institution... and some cal states, especially SLO excell in engineering, architech, and business

yea i got in at both ucm and ucr yesterday because i got rejected to all ucs but Im within the 12%.

I'd go with Poly, it's already well established and has a good business program.

I would still go with UCM... Cal Poly still has the CSU title.

I got sent an e-mail from UCM also, but I only applied to UCSC and was rejected. Might check it out if my appeal doesn't go through.

ehhh. Cal Poly has better a better ag,engineering,architecture,and business program than Ucm. Maybe in a decade or two, ucm would shine.

Well I'm shooting for Computer Science: Game Design, but the only UC to offer it is UCSC, so I'm stuck in a rut until I figure out my appeal decision.

Would rather get that real away from home college experience. I live with 2 brothers and a sister, not exactly fun.
