I honestly can't decide......
I am having an extremely difficult time deciding whether or not to attend UCM. I want to be a Political Science major, and enter law school afterwords. I just don't know whether or not I should go to a CCC or UCM. Would it hurt my chances going to UCM compared to coming from UCD after a transfer? By the way, the ultimate goal is to enter politics after Law School. Will UCM be able to offer opportunities (such as internships abroad or local) that would help me on a journey towards a political path? Thanks for the help guys, as of right now I really want to go, I'm just a bit nervous .

If undergrad is not a problem, UCM would be a great choice for starting your career in law. You would have a better chance to bond with your teachers, which is essential for getting into grad school. Keep your GPA high and get some good recommendations, then you would have great chance of getting into a good law school, similarly to other UCs.

not sure about interships

I don't know if you have ever heard of the programs called UC Sacramento and UC DC... In those programs you get to go to either Sacramento or Washington DC and inter while completing a semester of your undergrad. The program is offered at all UC's but since UC Merced is less competitive, you will have a greater chance of getting into the programs. I have also heard of interships with the local courts and state representatives and sometimes the state representitives writting letters of recomendation to Law school.

That all sounds good . But will the lack of accreditation hurt me for Law School?

My D is a poli-sci major at UCM. She also wishes to double major in psych with minor in writing. She currently maintains 3.7 GPA. She is considering applying for the UCDC internship. Law school is definitely a possibilty but she has not commited yet. She has interned for a state assemblyman. She loves the many opportunities that UCM has provided her. Opportunities, I might add that are hard to get at other UC's do to the competitveness. She considered transfering to UCLA but she realized what she could achieve at UCM given the opportunities.

By the time you graduate and apply to Law schools, Merced will be an accredited school. I believe they will be accredited in 2011...

Several recent graduates have been excepted to law school. It has been stated before that the Chancellor has proffered the full backing of UC system in support of any graduate from UCM.

Wow, it all sounds good. Anything I might need to know that could hamper my future plans of Law School? I want to go to UC Berkeley Law. Would I be better off going to a Cal State or Transferring from Davis?
