Do you get a single as a freshman at Merced?

I was wondering if because they have such low numbers of students is you get a single in the drms as an incoming freshman?

Probably not. Singles are reserved for people with disabilities / special needs.. If you sign up for housing, you can only choose between double / triple actually.
And since UCM is gaining more students each year, I believe that they are going to have more triples.. But in 2010, the new dorms should be available, and that will probably shift it back down to more doubles.

I don't know how the housing does it rooms now, but when I apply for the dorms (2005) I got to choose between a single and a double. A single cost a lot more then double though. About 2-3k more.
