Which one is everyone going to? I think this would be an awesome way to meet each other prior to Fall Quarter, so we should try to go around the same session.

Although I don't really have any preference, I think I'm leaning towards going to one of the first sessions right after high school graduation.

I'm thinking about going to the 24th-25th one, since that's right after graduation for me. I dunno yet.

same here, 24-25...there's a $130 fee for students, does anyone know how much it is for parents to attend??

I am going to the first one ( 22nd-23rd); its quite the annoyance to have to make a trip from ny for just a couple of days, but from what ive researched you want to go to the earliest orientation date as possible. When you go to orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor and talk about your classes, and he will essentiallly 'reserve a space for you in thoses classes'. Then when August comes around, and you get your designated time or whenever to go online and sign up for classes, you'll be given preferrential treatment over someone who went to a later orientation date.( ex) september) becase your spot will be reserved before theirs. At least this is what ive been told; i called UCSD. I might not be explaining it very well, but they said to get the earliest possible orientation date.

on 22nd, i have to pick up my diploma @ exact 8:30...
so i can't make it on 22-23....
i guess i will have to go on 24-25.

My mom is coming, she doesn't even really want to go, and she's not staying on campus. I'm happy about that one.

I went to my daughter's orientation at Muir 3 years ago. The parents and students have different agendas and I didn't even see her except for the evening mixer where we both square-danced for the first time ever. So, don't worry too much that your parents will be there if you prefer to be on your own. The main reason for a parent to go is to learn about things like insurance, life on the campus, to expect that their students will sleep in and miss a mid-term before they figure out how to wake up on their own, to not call their kid 5 times a day, and to let their kids exercise their independence. They also let parents know that most kids are willing to give up a bit of independence in the form of receiving packages full of goodies from time to time.

I myself would try everything not to go to the september orientation.

I would've gone to the first orientation, just for class dibs, but I'm going to be taking community college classes, so I signed up for session #2 (24&25, Saturday & Sunday). Done and ready. Now to see if my mom wants to stay or if I can even drive down there myself (>)...

I work with someone who graduated from UCSD 2 years ago. She also says that earlier orientations are better for getting your classes. I don't know if the June ones differ so much but she did say those that went to the September one did not get many of their requested classes.

Also, parents are $105.00 and that includes 3 meals and lodging in the Muir Apartments.

As a parent, I debated attending also, but heard that it's a very stressful day for freshman, with all the class decisions, so parents can be there for support. You are on your own for the day orientations though-parents attend a separate one.
