Meal Plans

Hey guys let's talk about meal plans real quick. I understand that we choose a certain number of meals per week but how do we sign up for that quota of meals? I know something involves TritonPlus but that seems to be the system of just "put money on card and buy crap".

Secondly, is there a deadline as to when we have to have signed up for meal plans?

There are meal plans? I didn't know that. I thought we just got 1800 dollars to buy food with.

Uh... there are no meal plans at UCSD. Everyone starts off with the same amount of dining dollars (is it 1800?) and you use those to buy your food items at one of the "dining commons". It's not buffet style, you don't sign up per meal. Each food item costs a different amount of dining dollars, and if you run out, you can buy more. But they expire at the end of the year. You can also use TritonPlus to pay for food on campus, and that just makes your ID card work as a debit.

I plan to sell a lot of my meal points to other students for a < 1:1 ratio.

I have a few connections close to campus for free or cheap food that I can go to and am almost certain I will have an excess of dining dollars at the end of the year.

Anyway, if it's the same as last year, then yes--all students start with $1800 non-refundable dining dollars that expire the last day of the academic year.

Ventanas has amazing omelettes and dinner menus.

Everything else is the quality of fast food places.

I heard the bistro sandwiches are great at Sierra, and the pizza at.. Sixth's dining commons? Maybe? Ventanas has a sushi night every week! But I heard the sushi is just okay.

tritonplus is completely optional, you can use it instead of meal points and at other restaurants on campus and a few places off campus. it's basically like a debit card. i believe meal points are purchased when you pay for housing, and it's separate if you live off campus

i wouldn't say that everything is the quality of fast-food places. i mean, if you want your burger and fries, you can definitely get it. but all the places have a salad bar and deli. the food isn't bad...it just gets boring after awhile
