Muir Students -- What's Muir College like?

To those that are in Muir College, what exactly is it like? What specifically characterizes it and distinguishes it from the other colleges? Does it have any unique atmosphere, activities, dorms, etc.? Does anyone have any pictures of the college, their dorm, etc. ?

The way the residence halls were created allows for a lot of interaction;

Res halls are separated by by floors with every two floors being connected by a spiral staircase--each of these dual-floors are designated as houses.

Also, there are essentially two wings on each side of the hall, and on each of these wings, there are two suites. Each suite, for our year, consisted of approximately 11 people (3 triples and 2 singles each suite).

With two suites being connected at each wing, having two wings per floor, and having two floors per house, there was a total of 88 people that pretty much live with each other. Many other colleges like ERC and Sixth comprise of isolated suites that would require one to put forth a little more work if they want to be with other people.

With this being said, expect to be disappointed at the aesthetics of the res halls since they're among the oldest and most displeasing on campus. However, because they're made of this ugly brick wall, noise is almost completely absorbed; if you were in ERC, thin walls would be your biggest concern.

Voiceofreason - I've done that already, smart guy. You can only get so many GOOD pictures doing a google image search (Most of them being similar exterior shots of big buildings). I'd get much better results if I asked a Muir student for pictures of the dorms, halls, etc.

xopattiecakeox - we (Muir) has slow elevators? Ha. We pretty much have the fastest ones in the whole school. Go to revelle or ERC and see how long you wait for the elavator that's just 2 story aboves you.

--If you mean slow as in sometimes it takes a while since we have 8+ story's then yeah I guess it takes some time, but still faster than ERC's and Revelle's

Muir is one of the more popular colleges at UCSD. I believe it has the least requirements to fulfill, or at least the easiest.

yes, muir has the least amount of GEs.

also, i believe muir has the best location- right next to the beach, and pretty much a central location compared to sixth which is out in the boonies

Liux43 - Even if it doesn't work, you can still just post the URL and we can copy and paste it in our browser
