Dining Dollars and Housing

Hey guys, I have a quick question on how the dining dollars work. The estimated cost of a triple dorm is about $8,756. Does the dorm cost include the $2100 dining dollars? Thanks in advance guys =)

so will 2100 dining dollars allow you to eat three full meals a day?

i'd like to see you wake up in time to eat three full meals a day, every day.

(and you're bound to make a trip to the grocery store every few weeks -- the ride there is free, after all)

Nope, its not supposed to give you three meals a day seven days a week. The 2100 tires to take into account that you'll have some days where you'll eat out or just skip a meal. If you do the three meal a day thing, you'll probably have to buy more dining dollars before the year is up.

you have a little under $10 to spend each day. that is, if you want to keep on track. that would be enough for about lunch and dinner -- without drinks, candy, other junks. =]

yeah the 2100 is included with your housing. you only pay the 8756.

oh and i just eat cereal in the morning, and use my meal points on lunch and dinner. i also go home every 2 or 3 weeks so i save some money on those weekends i guess.

but i mean if you need more meal points you can always get some more. what's 200-300 dollars more for food added to your college expenses? haha.

my parents told me not to budget my meal points actually. they told me to eat as much as i want and if i run out they'll buy more. xD

@aditami, haha mine said the same thing too..theyre glad im running out of mealpoints bc it means im actually eating

in the middle of the third week of last quarter i have about $280 left, which wont last...but now i can just buy more stuff at the store and if i wanted to buy more meal points, every you buy $100 you get $20 'free'..so its not that bad

The Basics

1. The scoop on the base Dining Plan
You have about 63 Dollars a week to spend in Dining Services restaurants. If you’re stocked up on mini meals and snacks, you won't starve. Need to grab snacks and lattés every day? You may want to add Dining Dollars or open a TritonPlus Account before spring quarter.

2. Two a Day
You might grab lunch and dinner at Dining Services restaurants so you can hang out with your friends. You’ll probably spend about $20 a day, meaning you'll need to purchase additional Dining Dollars before winter midterms and finals hit.

3. Three Squares
Vigorous studying is working up your appetite for three full meals. You'll probably spend about $25 a day... be sure to add a chunk of additional Dining Dollars before winter quarter.

For additional help with budgeting, view the Dining Plan Budgeting Calendar, available for download and inserted in your college move-in packet.

Additional Dining Dollars earn a 20% bonus! You can purchase Dining Dollars in hundred dollar increments. For example: buy 100, get 120. Buy 200, get 240. Buy 300, get 360. But please remember to purchase wisely since Dining Dollars expire in June, are non-refundable and non-transferable

$25/day means you eat 3 meals a day, get a salad, drink and main course...chances are, you won't be doing that.

besides, even though everyone gripes about it (me included), we still pay less overall for dining than at other places ($2000/SEMESTER) that force you to eat a certain number of meals a day and if you don't, oops, they just took your money.

tritonplus is like a debit card (but its your id card) that you use on campus for things like laundry, anything at the bookstore, jamba, panda, all the other restraunts on campus, any coffee stands....you can also use it at certain stores off campus...i use it at the chipotle thats close by...you just add money on it online and the money thats on it transfers from year to year so it wont disappear, and you dont get charged for using it or anything..it makes the little things on campus easy to do...when youre not at the dining halls you dont really need a wallet just your id..and not dealing with quarters for the laundry is nice

heres a link to the triton plus faq New TritonPlus Frequently Asked Questions

and

Residence Hall Housing rates for 2008/09
$10,306 Single Room
$9,506 Double Room

Don't worry about not having enough. There will be times you get free food and when you go eat out. If you have too much dinning dollars left you can even get fine dinning here :-)
and if you still have more than enough you can buy snacks or naked juice or enjoy fresh fruit smoothie :-)
