Frankly, the residence deputy doesn't help much because whenever I call them to consult additional information to the UCSD residence info web pages, they just tell you to search more online... In this case, I have no idea why UCSD employes them when they just tell you to get on the internet and look stuff up by yourselve... If you Email them, they reply by highlighting and linking stuff to you with no personal replies. Thus, seeking information from them is useless.

Happyioaw, I know how you feel because I thoght I cold establish CA resident within a year, but I guess not. Also note that the message I reply to you state that you need AT LEAST 2 years to become CA resident because even if you file your own federal tax return this year and next year, they count it as one year since the term is 08-09...This happened to one of many oos ucsd attendants I've talked to...

I believe for happyioaw's situation it would take at least 2 years.

In response to the residence deputy, I think you got to be more assertive. Talk to them in a sort of demanding yet polite manner. If that doesnt work get your parents to talk to them. If that doesnt work, tell them you have no internet. ;p

Also tell them that you have researched about it, but need more info.

You call them.
Although, UCSD residence deputy is quite hard to speak to. I recommend calling another UC residence deputy. Then get everything legitimized by email with the UCSD res. dep.

This sucks!
I was born in CA lived there for like 10 yrs, then I had to move.
My father remained a CA resident, but he became a TX resident a few yrs back.
Now, I have to wait for 2 yrs to establish residency.
No darn loophole in
establishing financial independence.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am just glad that I have U.S. Citizen. Atleast I get about 14K even though I am OOS.
So I am done with the calculation and it seems like I will have to pay 30K/year. I also have the possibility that I will be able to become a resident in two years. Do you think it's worth attending UCSD? It's such a great school for Bioengineering and a good opportunity in my life to spend 4 years in!
