Son neglected to put UCSD on AP reports, is it too late to get credit???

My son neglected to put UCSD when he took his exams in May. He said he knew he wasn't going to do that well (major senioritis had set in) and he didn't care. However he took 6 AP exams as well as 3 exams his Junior year and 1 his soph year totalling 10 exams. As precdicted, he didn't do well in lang ap, art history ap, econ ap or psych ap. However he got 4's in Bio, Envi Sci Ap, Physics B, Physics C, and a 3 in Calc AB. He is a applied science major so his strengths lie in that area. Shouldn't he be able to get some credit for some of these or at least pass out on a couple of GE's? We called today to put a "rush" on it, but doubt it will get there by the July 15th deadline. My question is can he still use them to satisfy some requirements possibly the following quarter if they are not in the system by the deadline for fall registration?

My guess is yes, but only if he does not enroll in the courses he would like the AP credits to replace. Also check with UCSD to see if they will provisionally (until official copy arrives) offer credit based on your score reports which you could fax to them. This would serve to allow him to register for the next course in the sequence if he so desires.

I am not a UC registrar person....but I think I might be able to help...

I had a friend who was in a slightly similar situation. He was at UCSD for like 2 quarters before he realized that some of his AP scores weren't logged. I don't know specifics but basically a call to the registrar (I think it was the registrar) fixed it. They simply verified his AP scores and applied them to his transcript. As someone mentioned, try to avoid taking classes at UCSD that would be covered by the AP scores.

They may or may not get him out of some classes - it can depend on the major and the AP class and score. However, it does count as 'units' and depending on what he ends up majoring in (remember - he may change his mind a time or two), it could affect when he's able to graduate - i.e. it may enable him to graduate earlier than otherwise. It can also help give him 'sophomore' standing earlier which could affect class sign-up priority. As others have said, contact the school to get the definitive answer.
