I dont think UCSD's reputation is going to be harmed since the people it happened to arent going to be applying again to UCSD, at least, not until they try to transfer or for grad school.

Besides, this thing, according to several articles I read online, said that this error has also happened to Harvard, Stanford, and several other top schools. Just UCSD's error just happen to get sent to many more people.

^ Yeah, but I was worried that it may discourage future applicants. It has happened to other colleges, but not as many people were affected (hundreds compared to UCSD's thousands).

I'm mailing my SIR tomorrow! (: Feels great!

Really, would you be discouraged from applying to a good school because of an email error followed up with a prompt apology? In a bizarre way, it emphasizes the exclusivity of a lower acceptance rate and ironically may enhance the school's reputation, albeit at the accidental expense of a lot of diassapointed 2009 applicants.
