| Fall 2009 Schedule? -Sophomore
My schedule for fall quarter:
Chem 6C - Trogler
Physics 1B- Keating
Physics 1BL- Anderson
Chem 6BL - (Waitlisted 4th position)
Chem 140A- Ternansky (Waitlisted 3rd position)
MUS15- Heavy Metal Music (For Fine Arts GE)
How's the workload for 140A and 6BL? I already started ahead on Chem 6C notes and I'm reviewing last quarter's physics. Has anyone taken this MUS15? and should I start applying for jobs right now, or when the quarter starts (or not til winter quarter?) Will I be able to get into 6BL still, or should I drop it and take CHIN10AN?
Sorry for all the questions >< I just want to finish some stuff off this quarter and I'm worried about the workload, esp. if I want to work too. (:

how are you taking 6C and 140A at the same time??
And not really hard wise, but time consuming wise that schedule will kill you, you need to drop at least one class

Get rid of a class... a few of those classes are super difficult from what I've seen and I can't imagine anyone would willingly take them together

140A with that teacher (you'll get in off of the waitlist for sure) is about 10-15 hrs/week out of class. 6bl is around 10 hrs per week out of class, but you won't get in because you're #4 on the waitlist.
Without 6bl, that schedule sounds somewhat reasonable, thought it depends on your abilities.

I will also be another Sophomore this coming year, and last Spring I took CHEM 6BL and CHEM 6C together, and trust me that is enough. YOU NEED TO DROP O CHEM, if you have looked at UCSD's General Catalog on the pre-reqs for CHEM 140A, CHEM 6C is listed. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE CHEM 6C along with CHEM 140A.
140A. Organic Chemistry I (4)
Introduction to organic chemistry, with applications to biochemistry. Bonding theory, isomerism, stereochemistry, chemical and physical properties. Introduction to substitution, addition, and elimination reactions. Students may not receive credit for both Chem. 140A and Chem. 141A. Prerequisite: Chem. 6C or equivalent course in general chemistry. (F,W,S)
KEEP CHEM 6BL, I'm pretty sure you will get in, seeing as summer is only half way over. Not to mention that UCSD has implemented a new system, from the Tritonlink front page:
All mandatory registration fees and tuition must be paid in full prior to the first day of classes or you'll be dropped from your classes and waitlists. Fall registration fees are due Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. So chances are many people will be automatically dropped. When I took chem 6BL in the Spring, 3 people got in from the waitlist in my class.
And keep your Music GE, my guess is your most likely also Pre-med, or at least Pre-health. Having a non-science helps keep your sanity in check, and its nice to not have such an intensive class.

So I can't take 140a and 6c together? I took it last quarter but I didn't do well so I thought I could take them concurrently. Will I get dropped from ochem if I do this? I was thinking of dropping chem lab and taking chinese series instead ...

So you took CHEM 6C last quarter? Or you took both CHEM 6C and CHEM 140A last quarter?
Well either way, I'm fairly sure, like 99%, that you have to pass CHEM 6C before you go on to do CHEM 140A. But if you did pass CHEM 6C but didn't do as well as you had hoped and are retaking it for the purpose of getting a higher grade, then I think it would acceptable to take both concurrently. If you do plan on taking CHEM 6C and CHEM 140A in the fall do not do these classes along with CHEM 6BL, your going to be very exhausted.

They are enforcing prerequisites now (every since Winter 09). So yeah, they'll drop you from 140A if you haven't completed 6C (though I do remember you used to be able to do 6C +140A together). If you want to get into 140A, there's always the petition option.

Okay, I dropped Chem 140A...and I can't take genetics because of the 19.5 unit cap until the quarter starts. Or CHIN10AN because it conflicts with Chem lab. So...I'm just hoping I'll get into Chem lab...I suppose ><

Well if you didn't pass chem6C, you may want this opportunity for a GPA booster perhaps? So then again, taking a shorter load than usual may not be a bad idea.
