is it possible to go from CHEM 6A to CHEM 6BH in Winter Quarter?

Why do you want to take Chem 6BH? If it's because you think 6A is too easy, I guarantee you 6B gets harder.

And the material in 6AH doesn't parallel 6A too well, neither does 6BH and 6B, so I'd recommend you not going from 6A to 6BH.

That's like going from 10A to 20B

Sorry for the double post, but if I remember correctly, the pre-requisite for 6BH is a passing grade in 6AH or higher. You can go down from honors to regular, but you typically can't go from regular to honors. I remember my friends last year were learning some thermo in their 6AH class.. which 6A doesn't even begin to cover

There is literally no benefit out of taking chem6BH as opposed to chem6B unless you want to because the challenge will keep you more interested. Believing it will help make you look more appealing to professional schools is just an irrationality.

^ Unless you know you'll get an A in the class, it'll do you more harm than good. It's enough of a challenge to get an A/A+ in Chem 6B anyway.

You can do it. I knew a guy who made the switch and I know there was a whole group of people who did it. However, at the time 6AH covered some topics that 6a didn't (Thermodynamics, I think). I am not sure how it is now. At the time the students that went into 6BH had to learn those chapters themselves. Certain topics (i.e. delta G) are used over and over in that class.
I would talk to Professor Hoeger about this. He will probably say you can't. You will have to be adamant. Eventually he'll tell you what you'd need to do.
As many of the previous posters have said there is no real benefit to taking the 6H series. In fact the other day I heard a guy complaining about how the 6H series killed his gpa. But of course my experience was the curve was actually much more liberal than the normal series. To that I will add everything extra that is covered in the 6H series will be covered in p-chem (130 series). If you are a chemistry major you'll learn it all over again anyway. It is up to you. Thank you for all of the replies. Yeah I was just wondering if that'd be possible, but apparently doesn't really look like it's worth it. On a side note, are there exams archive databases in UCSD where I can look up for previous exams?
