I've heard the rumors from a lot of people, but i really don't think there is much truth to it. I haven't seen the statistic posted anywhere, so I don't see how everyone else can know.

i think its a rumor that originates from the other rumor i've heard, which might be more accurate-that alot of casual sex takes place at UCSB...but who really knows?

I heard actually only about 2% participate in casual sex @ucsb when I attended a sexual awareness course.

What makes the sex "casual", like unplanned or is it with people without relationships?

There's a rule that should apply anywhere; Don't be a fool, wrap your tool.
If there's a high STD rate or not, be on the safe side.

Unplanned would also put rape under casual then, which I don't think it should be. I think of casual sex like f-buddies.
