Quick questions

1. I mailed my financial aid papers but I forgot to write my name/id# on each page. How will this affect me? I was going to call the office today but I didn't know they closed at 4pm.

2. I was reading the freshmen orientation schedule and I just wanted to know what "Acadmeic Advising" was. Also I wanted to know if I can show up to freshmen orientation just to register for classes or and leave.

Just looking for some quick answers.

I'm not sure what papers you would be mailing, but if there's nothing to identify you by (and they can't even look at the return address on your envelope), then I'd think that you might just have to do it over again.

"Academic Advising" is just when someone tells you about the requirements you'll have to fulfill in order to get your degree. It's not really all that personalized at orientation, though your orientation guide can probably answer any questions you'd have about classes.

At orientation, you're given a bag with the UCSB catalog, LASAR (a small book that lists GE requirements for students in the College of Letters and Sciences - I've linked to the one applicable for my year, but yours will be different), Kiosk, and some other things. Your orientation guide will show you how to schedule classes on GOLD as well as things to look out for when you sign up for classes (making sure times for classes and finals don't conflict, etc.).

If you were to just "show up and leave," orientation wouldn't be worth what you pay for it. I suppose you could schedule classes without ever going to orientation, but I don't know how you'd make sure you weren't missing anything important (like getting your Access Card, for example).

the cover pages that i printed out from ucsb's website i.e. the "student tax return", "parent tax return" forms, etc, already had a barcode with my name & perm number printed on it & i just attached those to the front of the stuff i turned in. i dont think you have anything to worry about if you did/had the same papers.
