are small kitchen appliances allowed in apartments?

I saw this posted on UCSB's Housing and Residential Services facebook page:

Does this apply to dorms only or apartments too?

On UCSB's housing website for apartments it states, "Kitchens have vinyl flooring and are equipped with cabinets, a sink with garbage disposal, a stove and a refrigerator. Appliances other than those furnished are not permitted." Does that include small kitchen appliances like toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, blenders, grills, etc?

For an apartment, I would assume kitchen appliances would be permitted. But I do not know, but that wouldn't make sense to not allow it..

I thought so too... maybe on the housing website they were referring to larger appliances such as dish washers not being allowed in the kitchen.

UCSB Housing & Residential Services replied to my question on facebook:

"Thanks for your question! Microwaves and other small appliances like coffee makers are allowed in the Undegraduate Apartments. In fact, microwaves are included on our list of suggested items in our FAQs: "The following are items residents often bring that are not included in the apartments: microwave, television, dishes, kitchen utensils, shower curtain, sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, desk lamp. You may want to coordinate with your future roommates to avoid unnecessary duplication of items." ( UCSB Apartments Frequently Asked Questions ) Large appliances like air conditioning units and washer/dryers or dishwashers are NOT allowed.

I would wonder why they wouldn't have shower curtains.

Get the mold resistant/mold-proof shower curtain! Or at least a mold-proof shower curtain liner and then use a decorative one on the outside. You can get these at Home Depot or Bed, Bath and Beyond relatively cheap. Otherwise, even if you wash/disinfect your shower curtain, you'll still find your shower curtain lined with black mold in the creases...yuck!

Also, check to see if you need to bring a shower curtain rod and shower curtain rings.
