Alot of people transfer out of UCSB?

Friend who went to UCSB transferred out her sophomore year to community college. Said that it was too expensive. I read other posts where people want to transfer to other schools like la, usc. So my question is do alot of people transfer out of UCSB if so why?

Reasons could be:
1) too expensive
2) he/she originally wanted UCLA/USC/ect. but didn't get accepted and now he/she wants try and transfer to his/her "dream school"
3) it turns out UCSB isn't his/her cup of tea.
4) a lot of things, the main point is that YOU like UCSB. So don't go by statistics of people who transfer out. If you like/love the school, why change?

Or it could be that the party life could be a problem for some people. I have seen a fair number of students ask questions about how bad the party scene is in these discussion boards and on facebook.

I know that many students can party and still get good grades. But it seems to me that there are also many students who don't really party and want to do well in school. If you're surrounded by people/roommates who are staying up late and drinking all of the time... it can be a distraction.

And when you take into account that UCSB has been listed as a top 10 party school by Princeton Review and Playboy, you know that there is some serious partying happening all of the time. That can be a real problem for some students or a real blessing for others.

The usual metric used for talking about this is the freshman retention rate. At UCSB it is 91%, same as UC Davis.

Hm, is it really that much more expensive? How much more expensive is it compared to UCI and UCSD?
