Does not have 12 units yet

Since I got dropped from my Chem class and discussion a while back, I now have 9 units and was trying all day yesterday and today to add a class. However, that hasn't been possible. I was wondering what I can do to add a class? I'd love to crash the Chem class but unfortunately, I was unable to get the room number and location for that course. For now, all I need is a class that's at least 3 units and open to incoming freshmen. So can I get any advice or help regarding this matter? Thanks in advance.

All chem 1A courses are MWF at chem 1179 at 8,9, 11 and 12. You can still crash the course tomorrow. At this point, you pretty much will have to crash every single class in order to get a chance of getting into a class. Just look up the class schedules on gold and see the course subjects that interests you. Have you contacted your counselors yet? They might be able to get you an add code for your class

Stupid question, but who exactly are our counselors and how do we contact them? Thank you SOO much for your response, I am literally freaking out right now

when I said counselers, I meant advisers (sorry for the confusion.) Most departments have them. Here is the biology advising office, and here's one for english. The chemistry undergrad adviser is here. You just have to go on the department website to find the info for the academic advisers.

Edit: I see that you already know about the advisers... I guess that you will have to crash the chem class tomorrow. Did you sign up for the waiting list yet? You can also try to crash classes with large amount of seats in the discussion sections even if you cannot directly enroll the class on the Gold website. For example, CLASS 40 seems to have a lot of spaces when you look at the empty seats in the various discussion sections.

Hmm it turns out I can't sign up for the waiting list for some reason, I get an error. Well, is there any other class in general that I can sign up for? I've looked at Anthropology and maybe Philosophy, but even if the class is CLOSED or FULL on GOLD, can I still crash regardless, as long as it's a lower division class? (<100) Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can crash them. They usually put the class on close status to force students to crash the class and sign up for a waiting list of some kind instead of allowing lucky people ,who just happen to be on gold when a seat opens up, to get in front of other people who also want the class.

Alright, thanks so much for your help. I would've been totally screwed if it wasn't for you.

I'm also trying to crash a class and just need 4 more units. I'm telling you, it really is starting to sound impossible. I went to the engineering advisor and the registrar and both their responses were kind of like "well, there's nothing we can do, you're just out of luck." Only thing my advisor could tell me was to crash more classes and I am now crashing five of them! I really hope one of them accepts me, but these waitlists are huge and we're really only counting on people to drop. I don't have any experience around here, but I really doubt more than 20+ people are going to be dropping in each class.

UCSB really overenrolled and this budget crisis is screwing us over. I think that, when all this is said and done, there will still be students who struggled and were not able to make it into the full 12 units. That should not be happening.
