| Yeah I heard a rumor that college 8 was preppy, but I would just assume that 9 and 10 are moreso that way. I think from what I saw, college 8 looked the nicest. I don't mind if a small minority are partiers, I just want to be on a floor of people who are fairly quiet and study minded. My brother stayed at Merril and said it was nice. (He is like me, doesn't like parties and such). I'll have to look at Cowell again. |

| why dont you guys just apply for one of the quiet themed halls? and then if you feel like partying, go to another dorm?
the problem with 8 is that youd practically have to drive to your classes. im not bringing my car up so i want a dorm close enough to walk or bike.
any more info about porter or stevenson? |

| Oh yeah, I see what you mean...
But, as for the second part, I really want to avoid that kind of stuff.
But... what is a substance free room anyway... I mean, isn't that stuff illegal anyway? Why would they even need a substance free room. lol
I mean, I know it's going to happen even if it's illegal, but what would stop it from happening in these rooms anyway? |

| Thank you so much bananaslug I never found that before.
Well I would just prefer my floor was fairly regular, and If I wanted to party, I could go to another dorm/college. I want my immediate environment to be fairly quiet and normal.
I do wonder though, do people who are on substance free floors really stay away from substances? Are these floors what you would consider the "Quiet study floors?"
Also, does anyone have any experience with the "intensive study floors." Is that just for people who have no life and just study? I mean UCSC, is supposed to be laid back... |

| the substance free dorms basically just set extreme rules that your expected to follow. you cant use drugs/alcohol, you cant allow anyone into your dorm who uses drugs/alcohol, and if you are under the influence of anything, you cant be in your dorm. if you violate these rules, they pretty much kick your ass out on the streets. i think its just meant for people who are sober (as in AA sober) or people who are just crazy against drugs.
and i dont know anything about quiet or intensive study dorms, sorry |

i took that to mean that theyre nice? I dont know! hahah what an odd stereotype.
my friend said that all of them are nice except that porter is a little hippie, which i can totally handle.
